An Easy Sheer Pink Manicure at Home

⏱ 1 min read

Sheer polish can look polished without demanding perfectly steady hands. Its soft coverage makes small streaks less noticeable, and you can stop after one coat or add another for a rosier finish. Before you start, gather a file, base coat, sheer pink polish, top coat, and a small brush for cleanup.

Prep for a smooth start

Remove any old polish and gently file your nails into the shape you like, moving in one direction rather than sawing back and forth. Wash and dry your hands, then make sure your nails are free of lotion or oil so polish has a clean surface. Apply a thin layer of base coat and let it dry before adding color.

Build color in thin layers

Wipe one side of the polish brush against the bottle neck to avoid flooding the nail. Start a little above the cuticle and guide the brush toward the tip, then repeat along each side. Let the first coat dry before deciding whether you want a second; sheer shades usually look neater in two thin coats than one thick one.

Finish without rushing

If polish slips onto the skin, dip a small cleanup brush in remover and trace the edge gently. Add a thin top coat once the color is dry to the touch, sweeping over the free edge as well as the surface. Give your nails a little time before reaching for your phone or pulling on sleeves—the easiest way to protect a fresh manicure is not to hurry it.
